Abstract

Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) refer to a range of conditions that begin before age 18 and impact physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. Patients with IDD often experience poorer health outcomes due to healthcare providers’ limited training in effective communication strategies. This evidence-based project aims to evaluate whether educating nurses on effective communication with IDD patients improves nurse self-efficacy and confidence in communication and enhances caregiver perceptions of nursing care.
