Coil has four monofilament nylon cervical threads - two attached to the end of the device for identification and removal, and two attached higher for situating the device in the uterus during insertion (lacking in this example). Instead of being a true coil, the device is composed of a series of loops all connected along a central spine (not visible in this photo). This IUD was not available commerically.
