Abstract

Patients with deep skeletal or dental bites before treatment have been noted to have a greater tendency towards relapsing to this deepbite following orthodontic treatment than do patients whose malocclusion showed a more ideal overbite relationship before treatment.

This study utilized patients selected from Rocky Mountain Data Systems for their deepbite trends. Three areas were compared to overbite relapse, 1) age, 2) interincisal angle 3) lower face height.

Results of this study indicate that overbite cases that have the most problems in retention were skeletal deepbites. This study also indicates that there was no disadvantage to early treatment, that the interincisal angle at debanding should be near the normal and that cases with a reduced lower face height showed the greatest amount of overbite relapse following orthodontic treatment.
