Abstract
The inadequacy of the sphygmomanometer as a diagnostic instrument in hypertension has been demonstrated electrocardiographically and clinically in several well controlled patients. The absence of symptoms in some patients with considerable elevation of blood pressure are understood only when peripheral vascular resistance is considered. © 1952, SAGE Publications.
