Abstract

Immunolocalization of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) rrM'‘' sub units has been achieved using paraformaldehyde vapor phase fixation of freeze-dried sections. An antiserum to monkey LDH-M^ was found to cross react with rat LDH-M subunits. The fibers of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles which are stained using the immuno-peroxidase procedure do not stain in the presence of 4 M urea in the conventional method. In kidney, the collecting tubules are the structures which stain most intensely with the immuno-peroxidase procedure and in peripheral nerve both the Schwann cells and axons stain. The nuclei of muscle fibers. kidney tubular cells and Schwann cells are clearly stained using the immuno-peroxidase procedure, whereas they do not stain with the conventional tetrazolium method for LDH.
